Happy 105th Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Monday, March 2 is the birthday for children's author Theodor Seuss Geisel. This is a fun time in our library. We celebrate his birthday by drawing our own Dr. Seuss Illustrations. After we are done (this takes 2 library periods), we post them on our bulletin boards in a collage format for all to see. The kids love it, and it's fun to compare a 6th graders interpretation of The Cat in the Hat to a 1st grader's interpretation. All the illustrations are amazing! We also listen to Dr. Seuss stories while we draw... for inspiration! For more Dr. Seuss inspiration, you can visit the official Dr. Seuss Web site at http://www.seussville.com/ .

Tumble Books is an online data base for elementary schools or public libraries where your students can play educational games, learn a language, read an "e-book" or have a "e-book" read to them, and much more. Your kids will need a password to enter the site or, as I did, just enter the site via your public library system. Explore and enjoy!
